Please note: For 2011, we are not advertising any heli-hiking departures. This is because of the mining exploration boom in the Yukon. All charter helicopter companies have told us they will not be able to guarantee any helicopter availability for the summer and therefore we cannot risk our reputation and your vacation.
At Uncommon Journeys, we think heli-hiking is one of the greatest innovations of all time. A helicopter is the great equalizer. On a heli-hiking trip, you no longer have to be an uber-athlete to ascend great peaks. You can quickly be flown to the summit of a peak and spend hours, or weeks, hiking at altitude, enjoying the viewscapes and easy hiking without the difficulties usually associated with climbing a peak with a pack on your back.
At Uncommon Journeys we can arrange a heli-hiking flight plan where we fly to the summits of some incredible peaks, experience world class views and then descend to our Wilderness Yurt Basecamp where fly-fishing on the bank of the Ibex River beckons, followed by a sauna, fine wine and a delicious meal cooked on a woodstove.
We offer a number of heli-hiking tours between May and October. Trips range from day hikes on Mt. Ingram in the Ibex River Valley, where you can watch young Dall sheep playing with their parents while we enjoy a catered alpine lunch, to multi-day hiking trips in the Tombstone Mountains north of famous Dawson City. Whichever Uncommon Journeys heli-hiking trip you choose, if you have never heli-hiked before we promise you that you will be hooked – it’s addictive!
