YUKON QUEST TRAIL MUSHING EXPEDITION - 7 DAYS

The Yukon Quest is known as the ‘toughest dog sledding race in the world’… and you and your team of Alaskan huskies are about to complete one of the most beautiful sections of this legendary dog sled race yourselves! Follow in the dog prints of teams driven by early settlers and racers alike and learn to mush and camp out on the famous Yukon Quest trail. Guides and guests will work together to set up a comfortable winter camp each evening, under the watch of the Northern Lights.

We follow the official Yukon Quest race route from Flat Creek to Braeburn Lodge, one of the Quest’s designated checkpoints, eventually mushing through the spectacular Chain of Lakes section of the race trail. You will enjoy beautiful log cabin accommodations at Uncommon Journeys’ Lodge for your first two nights while you learn about mushing in general and drive your own dog team on novice trails.

Expedition participants will then spend the next five days on the Yukon Quest trail, camping out “Quest style”, sleeping in specifically designed arctic tents with stoves which heat them to temperatures in the 80’s F (25ºC) for a couple hours in the evening and morning. All arctic outerwear is provided for you for your trip, including parkas, bibbed pants, mukluks and overmits. We will be eating our meals in a large cook tent and our trailside cooking is as delicious as the woodstove cooking we are famous for at our Uncommon Journeys Yurt Basecamp! This trip is participatory in nature and you will learn all about arctic camping techniques, winter physiology, dog care, dogsled driving techniques etc. By the end of the trip our guests are always amazed at how comfortable winter camping can be once they have the right equipment and know how!

We conclude our Yukon Quest Trail Mushing Expedition in the rustic comfort of the famous Braeburn Lodge Restaurant (home of worlds largest cinnamon buns!) to enjoy our own “Uncommon Quest” banquet and awards ceremony.*

The excitement of dog sledding on the actual race trail of the Yukon Quest is truly a once in a lifetime dog sledding adventure for novices and experts alike. And please note: as we only run this trip on this week, space is limited, so book early!
