Adventures in Canada's Yukon by Dog Sled and Canoe
"Thank you everbody especially Steve and Noel for their untiring help and technical knowledge which they imparted to us. Thank you Rod and Martha for having the vision to put this experience together so that an absolute novice could enjoy it. And for opening your world to us, to something we would never have the opportunity to be part of otherwise. Thanks again."

HOLMAN HIGH ARCTIC DOGSLEDDING EXPEDITION - TRIP ITINERARY

Day 1.
Guests will meet Rod in the town of Yellowknife, where they will be outfitted with their arctic outerwear and given their sleeping system and assorted other gear. This evening guests will stay in the hotel of their choice. Maps, personal gear and the itinerary are reviewed over dinner.

Day 2.
Today we fly from Yellowknife to Holman on one of the few scheduled flights between these northern towns. Arriving in Holman we meet our Inuvialuit guides, load our sleds and Komatiks and head out onto the sea ice for a short day of travelling.

Day 3 – 9.
For the next seven days we travel over the land, lakes and sea ice of this incredibly remote wilderness. There are no tracks here except those from the muskox and caribou we will see inhabiting this wild land. Weather permitting, we will stop to ice fish on some of the freshwater lakes found along our inland route. At night we will set up camp, including a cook tent and sleeping tents with small stoves. We will need to be prepared to sit out storms of over 24 hours in duration, which are always a possibility even this late in the season. This is truly the Land of the Midnight Sun, and by May, there is almost continuous daylight. Reading a book outside our tents at 2am proves we really are hundreds of miles north of the Arctic Circle!

Day 10.
Today we return to the village of Holman. After staking the dogteams out, we make our way into town for a tour of the famous Holman Co-op print shop. This is a world famous artists co-op where some of the most beautiful Inuit art in the world is created. We will have an opportunity to purchase these prints and carvings at a quarter of the price you would pay in well known galleries in New York or Toronto. In the afternoon we board our flight back to Yellowknife saying a sad goodbye to the guides and beautiful dogs of Holman with whom we have shared an incredible adventure.
