The following itinerary is a sample one and may be modified depending upon trail and weather conditions. In addition, due to the unpredictable weather in the arctic, extra days have been built into this itinerary to accommodate layovers while on the trail and two days for flights into and out of Herschel Island.
Day One - Leg One.
Guests arrive in Whitehorse on afternoon flight and are picked up by Uncommon Staff. Visit Whitehorse to purchase last minute things if required. Drive to Homestead for outfitting, pre-trip briefing, mushing 101 review, and dinner.
Day Two - Leg One.
Guests are driven to the airport for 8:00 am Air North Flight to Inuvik (included in trip fee). Arrive in Inuvik at 1:15 p.m. and greeted by Uncommon Guides at Inuvik airport. Brief tour of Inuvik, drive on ice road to Aklavik.
Day Three - Leg One.
Depart Aklavik, begin dogsledding trip through Mackenzie Delta.
Day Four - Leg One.
Travel on Little Moose Channel, MacKenzie River Delta.
Day Five - Leg One.
Travel to Shingle Point via sea ice.
Day Six - Leg One.
Layover day (dog rest day).
Day Seven - Leg One.
Travel over sea ice to Stokes Point.
Day Eight - Leg One.
Travel over sea ice arrive at Herschel Island.
Day One - Leg Two.
Group 2 arrives in Whitehorse and met at airport by Uncommon Journeys staff. Stop in town for guests to purchase last minute supplies if required. Drive to homestead for outfitting, pre-trip briefing, mushing 101 review, and dinner.
Day Nine _ Leg One.
Group 1 Explore Herschel Island.
Day Two - Leg Two.
Uncommon staff drive group 2 to airport for 8:00 a.m. flight to Inuvik Group Two arrives at Inuvik and stays in hotel.
Day Ten - Leg One / Day Three - Leg Two.
Group Two driven to Inuvik airport for flight into Herschel Island with food and gear drop Group One flies out from Herschel and arrives in Inuvik late afternoon – transfer to hotel in Inuvik.
Day Eleven - Leg One / Day Four - Leg Two.
Group Two explores Herschel Island.
Group One explores Inuvik – return to hotel for the night.
Day Twelve - Leg One / Day Five - Leg Two.
Group One Departs Inuvik 12:25 p.m. Arrives Whitehorse 3:40 p.m. and met by Uncommon staff – transfer to hotel. Group Two departs Herschel Island travels on the sea ice.
Day Thirteen - Leg One / Day Six - Leg Two.
Group One departs Whitehorse for home. Group Two travels on the sea ice to Shingle Point.
Day Seven - Leg Two.
Group Two travels on the sea ice.
Day Eight.
Group Two travels on sea ice.
Day Nine.
Group Two travels on the Delta.
Day Ten.
Group Two travels on the Delta
Day Eleven.
Group Two arrives in Aklavik and drives to Inuvik for overnight in hotel.
Day Twelve.
Group Two departs Inuvik for Whitehorse.
Day Thirteen.
Group Two departs for home.
