Hello and welcome to Uncommon Journeys from its owners, Rod and Martha Taylor! For the past twenty years we have been leading guests to wild and remote places in Canada’s North. Having travelled by dogsled and canoe over much of the north from Alaska to Baffin Island, we chose the Yukon wilderness as the place we call home.
Our personal expeditions have seen us paddling across the Canadian Barrenlands, mountaineering on the highest peaks in the Western Hemisphere, pulling pulks over the Greenland Icecap, kayaking and rafting on equatorial jungle rivers and skiing and dogsledding from coastal mountains to the Beaufort Sea.
Having worked for the Canadian Outward Bound Wilderness School since 1984, Rod is currently the Course Director for the Yukon branch. Martha was the Operations Manager and a senior guide with one of Canada’s largest canoeing and rafting companies based in the Yukon, having guided over 24 descents of the Nahanni River in addition to many other classic northern rivers. We are both certified in wilderness emergency care. Rod is a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician and has served in that capacity on expeditions abroad, while Martha holds an Advanced Wilderness First Aid certificate.
As members of the Wilderness Tourism Association of the Yukon, we are committed to helping create a healthy and responsible tourism industry in the Yukon Territory. Our respect and love for our dogs and our passion for helping guests realize their wilderness dreams continues to grow stronger with each season. We invite you to experience our ‘uncommon’ hospitality and share the trail with us this season!
